The Future's Bright, the future's…I can't pun anything with orange, there's no rhyme.

Maybe “forage” or “doorhinge”.  Focus Tim, what’s today’s deal? If you read my previous blog, you’ll be glad to know I have fully recovered from my stag weekend.  I’m now mourning the loss of a sunny weekend, as I dry off from being drenched in a sudden downpour.  I wasn’t even wearing a coat.  I look like a besuited life-guard without that red float thing…and muscles…and a tan.

Oh look, a good excuse for lifeguard nudity!

I rarely get a tan because I am one of those nagging housewife types that warn their friends about the dangers of UV rays, sun burn, cancer, blah blah.  Still they don’t listen and only come crying for after-sun when the back of their neck becomes an extra from Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (What a great B-Movie).

Now did you know that your eyes also need protection?  Invisible UV rays can damage the eyes causing cataracts and macular degeneration (in other words “does bad things”).  Most people probably know something about this, but too many forget they need to invest in a good pair of sunnies with a sticker on it saying UVA and UVB protected.  If it doesn’t have a sticker, you may basically be buying dark plastic – and this is dangerous.

Visible light is reduced by standard sunglasses, meaning that your pupil dilates to let in more light.  If your eyewear doesn’t provide enough protection then you’re actually doing more harm than good!

Hurray for today’s uber mega deal! Buy a £5 voucher (on a side note – how much do you love vouchers?  They are my new Christmas/Birthday/Anniversary/Kwanzaa presents to everyone.  I’m sure they weren’t cool when I was young – but now I think they are awesome!)  Where was I…

Oh yes, £5 will get you £25 to spend at glassesdirect.  Which means you can pimp out your shades with proper UV protection, tints of grey and brown, choose framed or rimless, aviator or wayfarer, bendable or titanium, designer or sporty.  There are so many options, it’s like a criminal photo fit – for your eyewear…well, they are shady…haha, shady…sigh.

That's not what I meant! (Cataract Falls)

If you’re thinking “sure Tim, it’s a great deal, but I already bought my sunnies for this year”, first of all: you got some attitude.  Secondly: seriously, do you only get through one pair a year?  I irreparably sat on my first pair in May at the premiere barbecue of the year after getting too excited over some smoked corn-on-the-cob (just thinking about it now…).  Then at the stag weekend I lost the second pair to the great network of rivers on the Norfolk Broads.  It’s quite difficult for them to have floated out to sea, but I like to think there is a dolphin in the North Sea that’s just a little bit cooler than the rest now.

So if you haven’t broken your 2010 shades yet (and there is still plenty of time) then the good news is the voucher lasts for three months, meaning you can buy now and, well, buy later!

The deal is on today in the following cities: Birmingham, Bradford, Brighton, Cardiff, Leeds, Newcastle, Nottingham, Oxford, Reading, Sheffield and Southampton
