The Groupon Community raises £650 for DEC’s Pakistan Flood Appeal
Groupon has yet again proved that doing things together, as a community, really means something.
Today is the day we’re closing our charity campaign with DEC – we’ll be donating £650 to their Pakistan Flood Appeal, because you guys managed to recruit 1300 people to the cause. Your personal connections will now help someone thousands of miles away – someone who is probably hungry, hopeless and needing help.
Perhaps someone like Nasreen, a mother of two, who has lost everything and is now living in an overcrowded camp with her family.
I don’t know what we will do now – we were poor already and we’ve lost whatever we had in the floods: our only shelter and means of income. Where do we go from here? We have nowhere to go.
Or maybe someone like Jannat, a widow, who was too poor to send her children to school even before the disaster, and now has virtually nothing.
On behalf of the many unnamed people you have helped: a big THANK YOU. It’s pretty extraordinary how friendships and social connections can affect someone, many miles away – and who knows, save their life.
If you want to know more about where the money is going to and how it will be beneficial, have a look at the official DEC page or this post by Jemima, announcing the campaign.
We’ve already asked some of you on Facebook, but if you wanted us to support a charity on your behalf, which one would it be?

Giant cheque next time?
Hmm, fair point Tim – must invest in giant cheques, much more effective.
I <3 What you guys doing with fundraising and showing you care for Pakistan.
How can the public get more involved with your causes and do you have any fundraising in mind for Caribbean counties hit my this summers Hurricanes (Jamaica, Haiti)???
