Crafty Christmas DIY Blog Round-Up
I follow a number of awesome craft, arts and vintage blogs, and a lot of them have been posting nifty craft DIY projects in the run-up to Christmas.
Leethal’s Mystery Christmas Present Knit-Along
The marvellous leethal – knitter extraordinaire – is undertaking her first mystery knit-along. The only clues you get at this beginning stage is that it’s a one size fits all job, and will make a great gift! It costs $6 to buy from leethal’s site or the ravelry knitting community. Find out more details about the mystery knit-along here.
Leethal also runs a great quick knits club, and releases ebooks with great patterns to customise your style. She recently released her third quick knits ebook called Bundle Up! which features an amazing pattern for knitting oval pockets onto any jumper or cardigan. Well worth a peek if you’re after some tips for beautifying your wardrobe in the cold weather.
Angry Chicken’s Wool Leggings
Another fashion related DIY appears on Angry Chicken’s Blog, this time for making your own wool leggings. Visit the blog post here or watch the video.
You should also check out the mini tutorial for preparing pumpkin spice mix, quick, easy, and perfect for gingerbread cakes, spiced cookies, or anything pumpkin related. Pick up some pretty little jars and this would make for a great Christmas gift too….
Elsiecake’s Personalised Pillow DIY
Although this project requires the use of a digital cutting tool (and there’s a giveaway on the blog for the Silhouette used in the DIY!), you could always skip that part and sew your design straight onto the pillow. Good opportunity to share my love for A Beautiful Mess here – it’s one of my favourite blogs, and one day (one day!) I plan to visit Missouri just for some of the Red Velvet store’s cupcakes and tasty vintage! Yum! Check here for the tutorial.
Once Wed Pom Pom Vines Tutorial
Not strictly a Christmas tutorial, but these colourful garlands could definitely brighten up a set of tacky Christmas decorations. Customize your own by using different colored tissue paper, cutting different leaves and flower types, or even cutting paper birds and tying them into the strands. Check out the tutorial on the lovely Once Wed blog. The tutorial comes courtesy of Anna from Rifle Design, another lovely blog. The Once Wed blog features some great quirky DIY and budget wedding ideas, and photos of some of the loveliest handmade weddings I’ve ever seen.

Cheap and environmentally friendly Christmas tree option!
Check out this excellent alternative Christmas tree from Poppytalk. I promise this is the easiest DIY you’ve ever seen.
Urban Outfitters DIY tree stand tutorial
A great way of recycling a tree stump – tutorial via the lovely something’s hiding in here blog.
TARDIS socks knitting DIY
For the Dr Who lover in your life! Get your needles out and put them to this insane – but very good – pattern for some TARDIS socks from Witty little Knitter.
Knitted graffiti tees from Threadless
Ok, so it’s not exactly a craft DIY, but this is the first t-shirt design I’ve ever seen dedicated to knitted graffiti! Check this out from the brilliant American website Threadless, an online clothing design and purchase community. They’ve got some great items in their sale and all the tees and hoodies are pretty well priced, even for posting over to the UK.
Happy DIY! If you’ve seen any online tutorials that would be good for Christmas then make sure you mention them in the comments, and I’ll check them out.
