On the Style Radar for Jan 2011
So now we all have Christmas cash burning a hole in our pockets (well – the lucky ones amongst us), here are the key trends to splash out on, that will carry into spring/summer 2011.
Calf-length midi skirts
An awkward length, especially for those with fuller figures and not blessed in the height department. But this can be helped by making sure that they are worn belted, on the waist not hips, with a fitted top or blouse. Heels are a must to avoid drowning, and should be worn with tights, or alternatively ankle socks for a kitsch 50s look. Alexa Chung and various celebrities have pulled this off.
Wide leg trousers
The wider the better – these will be a key look for spring, and again should be worn with heels – 70s platforms for the brave. Should be accessorised appropriately….a fedora, lots of chunky jewellery etc. and can be smartened up for work easily with a blouse/cardigan. Have a look at my favourite ones here.
Tribal prints/Aztec/ponchos
Always a winner for the festival season, and summertime. But I like them for winter too, layered with other clothes and clashed. Upcoming collections have denoted that the popularity of these will only grow. Clash with fur, feathers etc.

Heavy bib-style necklaces
Most high street shops have been stocking bib necklaces for a while, but I think they look best with old rock t-shirts and fur coats. Layer vintage chunky crystal necklaces for an individual look (Camden passage and Islington are good for this).
Capes/hooded capes
I’m not really a cape fan, but they can look distinctive when worn well. Topshop have a lot in at the moment. Hoods however look good and cape you warm, as do snoods.
Tights/knee high socks
I’m loving Henry Holland’s House of Holland range of suspender tights, for Pretty Polly. Topshop do their own, but these are the best ones.
They don’t look tacky when worn with the right clothes – such as casual slouchy shirts, ripped shorts, and little vintage dresses. I always thought knee-high socks were hard to pull off too, but with brogues and loafers, and the rest of the outfit pretty covered up, they can look good.
Hats
There are tons in the shops at the moment , I’m over berets a bit – fedora’s and trilbies will carry over into next season, and they still keep your head warm.
Feathers
On anything
Whilst getting organised for the new year – use these Insta-dry drops by Sally Hansen and save time, when you don’t have any.

i strongly suggest GROUPON investigate Pasha clinic in London – this company vouchers cost ofer £100 and yet clients like myself are unable to get appointments – when we do manage too upon turning up at the clinic are turned away with excuses of either the laser machine is broken or there is no booking in our name. Pasha clinic is an absolute sham – GROUPON owes to its buyers not to offer deals from Companies who are not capable of honoring the voucher in an appropriate manner. I have requested a refund for this voucher – it was purchased in Aug 2010 since then all my appointments were not honored – lets see how this matter is dealt with by GROUPON
Hey Shehnaz! I’ve passed this comment onto customer service; on behalf of Groupon – apologies! I will keep you updated as to what customer service say as I am not personally familiar with the details.
