Breakfast on the Go

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and if you’re like me sometimes you just don’t have time to fit it in before you leave the house for work in the morning. You may not have time to whip up an egg white omelette, but you can grab a healthy filling breakfast from a shop or in a train station for only a few pounds. Read below for a few of my favourite breakfasts on-the-go.

Moma Foods

Moma Foods – I’ve seen these Moma “oatie breakfast” pots in a few convenient places around London like Liverpool Street station and they are fairly new. I appreciate the idea of making healthy breakfast cheap and convenient so of course I had to give these a try. If you’re into yoghurt for breakfast but tend to think it never fills you up, you should definitely try a Moma oatie breakfast.

I love everything about them – they are fruity, yoghurty, low in fat and full of oats to keep you full until lunch. The calorie count is around 300 per pot, which is just perfect if you ask me. For details on the flavours and other products from Moma visit www.momafoods.co.uk.

  • When should I eat it?

For breakfast if you’re planning to exercise before or after – the oats will be great for giving you energy and filling you up.

Yoga Bunny Breakfast Bowl

Yoga Bunny Breakfast Bowl from Pret – When I first moved to London a couple of years ago, I was really disappointed with the options at Pret for breakfast, snacks and dinner.

For an ‘on-the-go’ place I thought they didn’t offer enough healthy choices, so you can imagine my excitement when last year they launched this low fat, low calorie (198 per pot) yoghurt pot with enough toppings for texture without adding too much sugar. The ‘yoga bunny’ breakfast bowl is seriously delicious – it’s made with low fat yoghurt, thinly sliced green apple, toasted almond shavings and a bit of dried fruit.

  • When should I eat it?

For a light breakfast on the go – perhaps you’re having a big lunch or you’re just looking for a really healthy choice, this is the one. It’s also great for an afternoon snack.

Yoghurt from home

Yoghurt from home – If you want to make your own version of these yoghurt pots, I suggest you grab the single serve Greek yoghurt pots in supermarkets (Total 0% is my fave), add in a small squeeze of honey, shaved almonds and a handful of blueberries and you’ve got a low-fat, low-cal, low-sugar breakfast that is packed with protein.

  • When should I eat it?

Whenever you want – for breakfast, as a healthy afternoon or late night snack, or even for lunch.

Yoghurt with blueberry and pomegranate compote

Yoghurt with blueberry and pomegranate compote from Eat – I have to admit I only bought this yoghurt from Eat to taste it as I knew when I went home to look up the stats it would be a calorie killer. I wanted to be able to include it in this post as I’d imagine it’s one of the breakfasts people grab thinking they’re doing themselves a favour.

This yoghurt pot is a real calorie killer (and it has 18g of sugar!). At 587 calories per pot for a small yoghurt with fruity compote, you’d be better off grabbing an Eat smoked salmon and egg sandwich (under 300 calories) or a large salmon and cream cheese bagel (399 calories) both of which will fill you up!

  • When should I eat it?

Just don’t. Trust me, it’s not worth it.
