Drawgasm
“Unbelievably happy”, “thoroughly confused”, and “totally stoked” were three feelings that most rung true with me after looking at the reaction to my last post on all things illustrationary. So much so, in fact, that I thought I would have another go at it this week too, as I had unhealthy portions of fun the first time around! As I’m riding on a wave of good fortune as it is, I decided to not inflict another haphazard sketch upon your good selves, and will be going straight into the real deals…not without a thick wedge of rambling, apparently.
Huw Devine
Mr. Devine is some sort of a graphic designer type guy hailing from the land of my fathers (Wales), but can currently be found plying his wares in London town. Nearly all the work I have seen this guy churn out has had strong sense of the funny – not to mention the overriding positivity that bursts out of everything he makes. Mixing pencil drawings in with warm colours and collages of old pictures, Huw creates things that are both interesting and filled with childlike smiles. The man, also, has a sickeningly good eye for all things pretty too. So, if you’re ever lacking in visual inspiration, pop over to his blog for page after page of images he likes the look of.
Greg Eason

I always forget how incredible FFFFOUND can be and then, with just a couple of scrolls down their home page, a beauty such as Greg Eason meets your sight recepticals – now you must spend 45 minutes kicking yourself in the shin bone that you haven’t spent your entire life mining their infinite pages. Greg Eason is a relatively new find for me, but he has born a hole in my heart already (*sniff*). I really like how his pictures are so sparse – it makes the focus of the picture so much more epic. Also, he sketches really ugly subjects for his pieces, which is ten times more interesting, I think anyway.
James Clapham

I honestly can’t remember where I came across James Clapham. Guess it doesn’t matter all that much. James lives in Liverpool and, as you can probably tell, draws big, colourful, cartoon-like pictures. His work instantly reminded me of Jiro Beavis, as both make highly detailed, large-scale comic book style work, with a kind of teenage humour to them…but for adults. Not sure that makes sense, it’s just my interpretation of them. They, also, kind of remind me of Beavis and Butthead, but with yuppies…
Adam Hancher

Adam Hancher is a Bristol based illustrator that appears to have been brought up in the wilderness. The reason I say this is because all of his pictures seem to revolve around the theme of being outside – there are a lots of trees, leaves, skies, roads, houses, and people in thick jackets. He seems to spend his whole drawing life in a perpetual autumnal glow. They are very cool, and perfect for anyone who has forgotten what a wooden cabin feels like against your palm. One of my favourite pictures by him is Man of the Woods.
Thereza Rowe

Thereza Rowe paints the kind of pictures that I can only wish that my parents had splashed out on for my nursey room…perhaps I would now be more imaginative, I don’t know. Thereza paints lots of animals and funny characters with lashings and lashings of colour and playful themes. If confused characters and strange looking animals are your thing (they are mine), then you should really take a look at her work when you get a chance. Thereza is one of those enviable ladies who has time to draw and paint pictures, make bookworms and postcards, take pictures, and look after her pet cat, all the while tweeting interesting things and giving strangers Lovefilm tokens…well, that’s what she was kind enough to do for me. Thanks Thereza!

wow. Thereza Rowe has reintroduced the concept of colour into my mind, I think. Cheers for that.
FFFFOUND! is a morning ritual for me,
I rise a-dawn time and sip lemon tea,
I poke on my apple drawgasm to see,
You’re on fine form I’m sure you’ll agree!
