DIY Tutorial: Paper Hearts Bunting
If you’re into your reuse and recycle projects, you’ll love this one. It’s a great way to use old books and pretty yarn to decorate your house. No complex skills needed for this either!
You will need:
- yarn (I’ve used two ply, dusty pink)
- embroidery needle
- an old book you don’t mind cutting up
scissors - blue tack or sticky tape
- pen
(like so)
Step 1
Rip some pages out of your book
Step 2
Draw your heart shape on the pages (or you can just cut freehand if you feel comfortable doing that)

Step 3
Once you’ve got as many paper hearts as you want, then you’ll need to start threading them together (like so).

Step 4
Identify a location in your house that you want to prettify and tape or blue tack up your strand of yarny hearts. I’ve got this rather boring bottom shelf of a bookcase, which serves as a home for my jade plant. I hung up one strand of yarny paper hearts here, but it didn’t seem to be quite enough…
Step 5
Repeat above steps until you’ve covered the area to your satisfaction!

Step 6: Put everything back in its place, sit back, and enjoy your newly crafted display! Mine also features some rather pretty artwork from elsiecake. Worthy of a fine home.

Pretty sweet, huh? Let me know if you decide to have a go at this DIY. I’d love to see the results…

thanx, but how do you make the 3D hearts?
All very pretty but I really wanted the tutorial on the bunting as pictured in blog.
hhmmmmmmm, I would think you could put 2 hearts together and sew down the centreof them then open out to make 3D hearts. This is what I am going to do as I wanted the 3D ones too. Hope this helps
Looks as though the ones in the picture are made by placing 2 hearts on top of the other, then sewn down the middle. Would be hung to dangle down not across I suspect.
hello! thanks for your comments on the DIY – I’m not entirely sure where that image of 3D paper hearts came from as it’s not from my original DIY, I think it was put on there by mistake – however, I might look into adapting the tutorial to make 3D shapes….
