Go Bananas with Chocolate Covered Frozen Bananas
Chocolate covered frozen bananas are a quick and easy treat for summer when you would rather be outdoors having fun than fiddling about making fancy desserts. They are also a healthier alternative to other sweet frozen treats.
They can be customised to suit your taste cravings with different types of fruits, chocolates and toppings. Here are some suggestions:
- rainbow sprinkles
- chocolate chunks
- fudge chunks
- chopped nuts
- chocolate vermicelli
- chocolate in a contrasting colour
What you need:
- Bananas
- chocolate
- lolly sticks
- Toppings and/or contrasting chocolate (optional)
Prepare a baking tray by covering it with baking paper. Have your toppings ready to hand.
Break the chocolate in to a mixing bowl and place on top of a saucepan of water on a low heat until completely melted.
I find it is best to work with one banana at a time.
Peel the banana and secure the lolly stick by pushing it in slowly, being careful not to go in the wrong direction (they can be slippery!).
Dip the banana into the chocolate (or alternatively use a spoon to cover the banana with chocolate). Place the chocolate covered banana on the covered baking tray and sprinkle toppings as desired.

If you are going to use a contrasting chocolate then melt it in the same way as the main chocolate and then drizzle over the banana with a spoon in a sweeping motion until you get the desired effect.
Repeat with the other bananas.
Freeze for at least two hours.
Variations
For smaller portions (for children etc.) or if your bananas are large, try halving them.
Bananas don’t float your boat?
This idea works with many different kinds of fruit or you can use a mixture and make a frozen fruit kebab! Strawberries and grapes work particularly well.
