Do This Or Regret It: My Weekly Dose Of Capital Culture (Week 28)

London is providing some real treats this weekend; far too much fun to be had.

ART: Jake or Dinos Chapman, The White Cube, Until Sept

Like them or loathe them, Jake and Dinos Chapman are a force to be reckoned with. The controversial collaborators – and Turner Prize nominees make more waves than a wave machine. Grotesque and gratuitous? Absolutely, but striking none-the-less. Unusually: the brothers will be exhibiting individual work across the White Cube Galleries. As usual: expect the unexpected.

THEATRE: Multimos Scratch, BAC, till 30th July

Pioneering performance artist Bunty brings a scratch of her new show to BAC. The event treads an experimental path, fusing theatre and music in a web of loops and theatrics. Past performances have featured bears, dancing girls, choirs, installation, projectionists and other special FX. Now collaborating with video artist Metaluna, this promises to be a visceral, experiential extravaganza.

MUSIC: I’ll Be Your Mirror, Alexander Palace, Saturday and Sunday

I have always been a fan of the wonderful ATP - yet again they prove worthy of my adulation. Taking the name from a Velvet Underground song, the two day festival plays out at the beautiful Alexander Palace. Trip hop innovators Portishead headline and curate – assembling an incredible line-up that includes PJ Harvey, Grinderman, Caribou, Swans, Beach House, Company Flow, The Books, BEAK and Doom. Godspeed You Black Emperor! come particularly highly recommended – the post-rock pioneers put on a bone-shakingly good show.

FILM: Clerks: I’m not even supposed to be here!, Prince Charles Cinema, Friday 22nd

Following their hugely successful “sing-a-long” screenings (not to mention the awesome “chant-a-long” Wicker Man) Prince Charles hosts a new form of interactive cinema: “quote-a-long”. The cult classic Clerks kicks of the season, with audience members invited to come dressed as a Kevin Smith character. Prizes will be won, Berserker will be performed live and “37!” will be screeched in unison. Ridiculous…but tempting, right?

WILDCARD: The Boom Boom Club, Old Vic Tunnels, from Thursday July 21st

The Boom Boom Club know how to put on a good party: trailblazing Cabaret makers, with a penchant for mischief. Following a brief sabbatical of sorts, the hell-raisers return with a two week residency at the Old Vic Tunnels. In collaboration with Time Out Live, they offer an eclectic mix of exclusive Cabaret, promenade and installation performance. Darkly fantastical, raucous fun – featuring Jonny Woo, Vicky Butterfly and the inimitable Des O’Connor.
