My Best Friend’s Wedding (Dress)
Our guest blogger for this week is Danni from Brixton. We came across Danni’s blog a while ago, and have been firing emails at her on a weekly basis since to get her to give us the blogging goods. She finally succumbed. We join Danni here on her quest for the perfect dress for her best friend’s wedding – we wish her the best of luck!
I have a few obsessions. Food being one of them! garlic, onion, pesto, sun dried tomatoes, cheese, marzipan are among the few favs. But food and eating out are among the things that make me entirely happy an smiling. Making dresses is also another hobby of mine. I’m not the worlds bestest! I bodge job things, but I can make something wearable (for at least 2 wears). I grew up with my mum as an only child (I swear I’m not spoilt), but I moved to London Brixton two years ago and can never imagine moving (there’s lots of ice places to eat here).
It couldn’t be that hard could it? Finding a dress to wear to my best friends wedding? I mean, its summer (at the time I wrote this, I look outside to trees blowing in the wind on a backdrop of grey clouds) hmm. But there are still summer dresses on sale for the so called wedding season. French Connection have an amazing sale on at the moment. As do Miss Selfridge.
I started looking six weeks ago! That would be enough time to find a dress and possibly treat myself to some new shoes. I never buy new shoes. I have two good old faithful pair of heels that have been with me through everything. But it was time. To be a grown up, and purchase a whole new outfit and not feel nauseous.
The first shopping trip didn’t go down well. I found dresses I liked, but weren’t quite suitable for a wedding? A little bit too short? Perhaps a wee bit too tight?
What do you wear to a wedding? I found this site to be helpful: Instyle.
I found some gorgeous heels from www.topshop.com At a reasonable price. But without the dress I couldn’t possibly risk buying some bright orange court shoes.
Adorable though.
So, I left it a while and decided to have a look online. ASOS are a genius for serving up a plethora of dresses. But waheyy there are lots and lots of dresses to choose from. It was ultimately too much choice for one girl. When you have a specific look in mind. I had decided I wanted to wear a flowing, chiffon, maxi. A little bit 70’s, a little bit delicate, and a little bit romantic. In a mint or orange. So, nothing too specific then.
I have noted I am a little bit obsessed with orange. Yes!
I trawled around Spitafields on a Thursday. Not the best day to go, but amazing antiques market was on, which was fun all the same.
I accidentally got side tracked by the large ‘Hard shakes’ they were selling at The Luxe in the market. A newish little urban café that sells everything from eggs Florentine to a fish finger sandwich.
The hard shake consisted of coconut ice cream, pineapple, rum (and lots of it) and a mountain of cream! I was in heaven. I shared that with my friend for dessert. As I’d already indulged myself in a cheeky monkey milkshake (coconut and chocolate ice cream, banana and peanut butter), I was in my element.
After an unsuccessful day on the hunt for the perfect dress, and food being my ultimate distraction. I am left to 4 days before the wedding. And the hunt continues…

There’s a lot of lovely stuff out there, from dresses to tops and trousers. Personally I’d suggest a dress and big wide belt!
Please where did u find the green maxi dress?? Xxx
