Some Quick Reasons Why I Love London

Let’s face it – London is rainy, its grey, it’s busy, and it’s polluted. But there are a lot of reasons why I moved here five years ago and haven’t looked back. Also, in wake of the recent troubles in the UK, we should be promoting the benefits of the places we live, and be thankful to all the communities that have been pulling together in the great clean –up. So, here I’m going to list my favourite things about London – that you can’t get anywhere else, that I miss when I’m away for even a day or two.

The 24hr convenience

Where else can you nip out to numerous 24hr off-licences for a snack or a frisbee, or even to a bar that’s open at 5am? Marathon – a kebab shop in Camden containing a jazz bar out the back with a garden, open until 4am, for example.

Or maybe I fancy a haircut in the evening after being at work all day? Or perhaps even a late night beauty treatment? If I lived anywhere else but here, my golden locks would be neglected and my complexion would be sacrificed.

In other cities in the UK, the craving for >some fine Turkish cuisine to relax with whilst watching Sharky and George at 6am would have to go unanswered. Not in London.

All the lovely free cultural stuff

This is one is no shocker, I know, but it’s never gets boring hearing about it. From the numerous cool street markets offering tasty food (try >Broadway Market or Borough Market) to koi-infested scissor-clipped gardens to free museums and art galleries, my nights and weekends are never left wanting.

The summer is a fantastic time to be in London – you’ve got free festivals and events every single weekend. One I’m particularly looking forward to soon is >Notting Hill – it’s a great day out, and not too harsh on the pocket money.

If you have any energy left at the end of your jam-packed day, then head to see a cool up and coming band’s gig. This particular venue is my hot tip – they have free entry and BBQ’s on a Sunday.

The fashion

There’s such a range of styles, shops, fashions and choice – around every corner there is another group of jaw-droppingly glamorous kids to make you doubt the jeans you slipped into that morning. Central London offers the biggest Topshop and high street stores in the country, whilst west and east London are full of individual boutiques and vintage stores – a couple of London vintage staples are Absolute Vintage and >Beyond Retro. Also, we should not forget the monster shopping centres, like >Westfield.

The travel

I think one of the thing I love the most about London is the freedom – I want to visit my friend across town, straight after work, and have a few drinks, but I’m skint – well I’ll jump on a bus, be there in 20 mins (everywhere in London takes 20 mins) have few drinks and jump on a bus back with little bother. Anywhere else apart from London, the journey would involve a pricey cab or waiting an hour for an unreliable bus in the freezing cold.

These are just the handful of reason I love London that I could think of off the top of my head. Why do you love London?
