Style Birmingham Live Redefines the Catwalk
Style Birmingham Live hit the Midlands with a bang between 23rd-25th September. The weekend became a fashion, beauty and shopping extravaganza, with a variety of shows, in-store treats and a whole lot of running around town. I was lucky enough to attend SBL on the Sunday, which resulted in running around like a headless chicken due to the shorter shopping time!
The first show I attended was called The Show: Redefinition. This 30-minute show mixed fashion with technology, which was right up my street! Sat down in the Bullring, the audience watched as beautiful models walked down the catwalk, whilst a changing themed hologram created the backdrop. It was a brilliant experience and one I was glad to witness. I will admit though, I expected a bit more on the technology side, such as a hologram on the catwalk. Depending on where you were sat, it may have been awkward to see the backdrop and therefore you missed out on the experience.
The outfits themselves were set in themes to suit, and of course I found a few personal favourites. They were a mix of high street and designer brands, which could be found at the Bullring stores there and then. Judging by the looks on everyone’s faces, they seemed to enjoy the show, and so did I!
With themes such as Dark Romance, Mannish and Spot It, I noticed many trends appearing more than once. For women, teal colours, colour blocking and statement heeled shoes ruled the catwalk. For men, it’s all about Doc Marten boots, parkas and strong tailoring, in a variety of colours to suit the theme you want. The styling team were really inspiring by showing us how to wear items to create different outfits. It’s all about mixing and matching! ‘The high street is your oyster’, as they say.
