Meet Some of the Groupon Advert Extras

Hi, I’m Mathilda, and I’m a Scheduler at Groupon for three cities in the Southeast (Southampton, Bournemouth and Portsmouth). It was a very exciting experience to be a part of Groupon’s new advert from an actor/extra’s perspective! There are so many hidden gems behind the glamour of adverts because it’s more about being persistent, patient and keeping a positive mood. It was obviously great to get my hair and make-up done, but it was so much fun getting to throw flour around during the cupcake scene. The experience was challenging at times, but still pleasant and more fun than I originally thought it would be. I can’t complain about getting out of the office for the morning either, even if it was an early one! If I got the chance I would definitely be an extra again. I have to admit that being part of the commercial for the company you are working for makes it extra exciting!

Hi, my name is Laura, and I’m a City Analyst for London at Groupon. I do sales support for the London sales reps and I’m also a city analyst for a new division of Groupon, called ‘Groupon Now,’ which is in the process of launching. The Groupon advert was great fun to film and a nice change of environment to be in with my colleagues; I also met a few new faces who work at Groupon. The film crew that directed us were highly professional, as were the runners and directors. The improvisation was also fun; like getting one of the runners to stand in as a waiter, and the fact that the restaurant scene took place in a real restaurant meant we actually had real food…although the wine was just juice! I was really excited when I first saw myself on TV, and it really was special to be a part of the whole process. Be sure to watch out for me!

Hi, I’m Yasin, and I have been at Groupon for 5 months now, working as a member of the Partner Support team. Our team’s role is to come up with innovative ideas to make the Groupon process as easy and fun as possible for our partners and customers. When I found out that I was chosen to be an extra in the advert, I actually felt as if I had won the X-Factor…there was a lot of excitement to say the least! The day started very, very early in a stylish restaurant in Hammersmith. We were treated like movie stars while being dolled up with hair and make-up – something I could get very used to indeed! Our first shoot took a good hour to film and perfect, with different tweaks and ideas added here and there. However, once the advert was put together the scene lasted only 5 seconds, which made appreciate just how much time and patience goes into filming for TV and film! The production crew were extremely knowledgeable and professional, and I was astounded with the amount of work and preparation that actually goes into making a 30 second advert. The whole experience was awesome, and it was great to be a part of the first ever UK Groupon UK TV advert!
