Coffee Time
For me, coffee is a moment of pure happiness. Not only for its wake-up kick, but for its lovely roasted aroma, its very rich taste…and also for its perfect alliance with a square of dark chocolate! It just makes me feel more alive. If you, like me, love your coffee and are after the real stuff (not the instant rubbish), here are some of my favourite spots in London.

Flat White Cafe: Go there for a strong coffee with a silky cream on top; they serve the best Flat White in town! This New Zealand version of a cappuccino; a shot of espresso served in a cup of textured, sweet milk. The barista will of course decorate it with a beautiful fern like drawing, and it’s the best drink to pause and watch the Soho crowd go by.
Gelupo: This delicious gelateria will amaze you. The coffee is very fragrant – Brazilian beans, strong but sweet, and you can indulge in a variety of options. Caffe alla nocciola is a favourite with a spoonful of hazelnut paste melting nicely at the bottom. Or, go for the affogato, with a scoop of your favourite ice-cream. This proves very addictive and you might just have to order a second one!

Kaffeine: This café serves Square Miles winter blend; with its comforting hint of orange to create fascinating and full flavour. Be sure to ask them about their Synesso – the “Rolls-Royce” of espresso machines. The staff are extremely passionate about coffee it and it shows with their particularly skilled Baritsa’s
Monmouth Coffee: The best reference for coffee in London. African, Colombian, Indian, Guatemalan…you will be spoilt for choice. The espresso is fruity with a hint of toasted almond, and they even have an organic one with a lovely cocoa aftertaste. Make sure to plan your itinerary to stop at any one of their three café’s.
Nude espresso: I love that they source their own coffee and roast it on site. Their signature blend is made of three different kinds of beans to make it taste even more enigmatic. Perfect with a cake or muffin!
Prufrock Coffee: Now this my friends, is serious coffee! High tech machines, grinders, Japanese pour-over filters, syphon brews. They make coffee a very fine art indeed, and it’s as important to them as wine-making. The espresso is very complex; slighted nutty at first then developing to a fruity final note. You can even join barista classes on Saturdays. Check out the syphon brew process above, insightful stuff indeed!
Can’t live without your daily caffeine shot either? Where do you get yours?
