Do This Or Regret It; My Weekly Dose Of Capital Culture
Another week of recommendations…and barely a whisper of Christmas!.

ART: Swoon: Mumuration, Black Rat Projects, Until 15th January
New York street artist Swoon offers a gorgeous alternative view on graffiti. Specialising in life-size wheatpaste prints and paper cut outs; her detailed work is beautifully rendered. Potently political, wrapped in Renaissance and dipped in fragility: unmissable.
MUSIC: Klub Zoo Gang, Two Wings, Café Oto, Friday 9th December
Klub Zoo Gang offers an beautiful mix of cutting-edge loveliness and experimental charm. Tonight’s performance features performances from the Klub Zoo Gang Hosts – acclaimed songwriters Devon Sproule and Paul Curreri – alongside the mesmeric Two Wings. An engagingly esoteric Glaswegian band, Two Wings are all close harmonies, playful plucking and wayward melodies. Think Kate Bush and Richard Thompson covering the dawn chorus – infused with a healthy dose of foot stomping rock and murmuring roll.

FILM: Secret Cinema, Secret Location, Until January
Secret Cinema is an enticingly hush hush venture from the wonderful Future Cinema. On a mission to change the way we watch film, Secret Cinema create an immersive event around the film – allowing the audience to inhabit the world of the film, engaging with online pre-narratives and offline experiences. The twist? The location and the film are kept top secret until the celluloid rolls. In the words of the creators: “Secret Audience. Secret locations. Secret Worlds. Whisper only amongst yourselves. Keep the motion. Tell-no one.” Beg , borrow or steal a ticket…and get guessing.
THEATRE: Audience, Soho Theatre, Until 7th January
I was sorry to miss Audience at this year’s Edinburgh Festival – by all accounts an incredible production that proved to be the talk of the town. Thankfully the multi-award winning Ontroerend Goed are returning to the UK, with a run at the Soho Theatre. Exhilarating, outrageous, unconventional and somewhat controversial, Audience turns the focus on – you guessed it – the audience. This Saturday the matinee performance includes a post-show panel discussion with Caroline McGinn (Theatre Editor of Time Out), Laura Barnett (theatre reviewer from the Telegraph), David Jubb (Artistic Director of BAC) and Joe Murphy (Artistic Director of Nabokov Theatre) – asking if theatre has gone too far. I certainly won’t be missing this one.

WILDCARD: ATP Festival: The Nightmare Before Christmas, Minehead, Friday 9th – Sunday 11th
In my humble opinion All Tomorrow’s Parties put on the best festivals in the country. Taking temporary residency in a Butlin’s holiday camp, ATP invite bands and artists to curate their dream line-ups. This weekend Les Savy Fav, Caribou and Battles present a suitably incredible programme including Oxes, Flying Lotus, Gary Numan, Omar Souleyman, Four Tet and Sun Ra Arkestra. Not to mention the other attractions – a swimming pool (with slides!), a bowling alley, go-carts, 2p machines…the list goes on. One year I saw Shellac going crazy for the wave machine and my friend had a dance-off with Peaches. Brilliant.
Enjoy your week!
