And So This Is Christmas…

It’s Christmas in the mansion,
Yule-log fires and silken frocks;
It’s Christmas in the cottage,
Mother’s filling little socks.

This little poem inspired me to think about what tasks we get assigned to do at this festive time of the year. Most families work on an unspoken leveller depending on where you come. I am the youngest of three and my usual tasks are the brussel sprouts and putting up the stockings…complex I know!

My ever dominant (but extremely successful) older sister is usually in charge of the awesome present buying and putting up the tree. This includes decorating it to precise perfection; everyone else be warned…DO NOT TOUCH!

My unbearably talented brother, who is also a Michelin Star Chef, is in control of the food; and when I say in control, I mean totally obsessed! Homemade everything: including the mince pies, stuffing, and of course gravy. I’m really not complaining though, it’s quite an amazing banquet to say the least. He can be found in the kitchen usually for hours stuffing numerous game birds into one another and testing which stilton will best go with the port this year.

My parents can then sit back and relax, and I really like the fact that we all get to give back after so many years as children just running around playing with toys and tearing up the house, whilst they did all the hard work. Christmas isn’t about who has the best presents or who has given the most – it’s about spending time with family and loved ones and taking time to see what you can do. Try looking at what talents you have and putting them to good use. Many hands make light work as they say, and I’m pretty sure I’m going to be on washing up duties, which I don’t mind as the brownie points clocked up by doing this tend to last the rest of the year!

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year.
Merry Christmas Everyone! xxx

    It`s nice to be one of the elderly parents,and quietly relaxing,while the young folk are running around getting everything prepared, so that we can enjoy the fruits of their labours!
