Do This Or Regret It: My Weekly Dose Of Capital Culture (Week 2)

I hope you have all had a lovely week – are fully recovered from celebratory shenanigans – and are ready to strengthen your acquaintance with 2012; she has a lot to offer.

MUSIC: Trailer Trash Tracys, The Lexington, Thursday January 12th

Woozy neo-shoegazers the Trailer Trash Tracys play the Lexington this week, coinciding with the release of their incredible debut ‘Ester’. Think My Bloody Valentine covering The Ronettes, backed by a broken drum machine. Riddled with reverb and drenched in a healthy dose of Lynch; this is not to be missed.

THEATRE: Frankland & Sons, Camden Peoples Theatre, till Saturday 28th January

Created by three generations of the same family, Frankland & Sons explores life, love and loss in the 20th Century. Devised from the contents of several inherited suitcases of letters; the show maps 25 years in the relationship of Tom Frankland’s grandparents. Playful, life-affirming stories, skilfully realised . . . with an astonishing twist.

ART: Eva Caridi: Nude, Ambika P3, From Thursday January 12th

This intriguing exhibition poses the perfect excuses to visit the wonderful Ambika P3; a 14,000 square foot underground hanger opposite Madame Tussard’s. In these striking surroundings, award-winning artist Eva Caridi presents a site responsive installation exploring the human condition. The work reportedly features a labyrinth of iron blocks and sound flows, an army of life sized human sculptures and a series of video projections.

FILM: At Home With The Ludskis No. 3 Winter Edition, The Rio Cinema, Saturday January 14th

A late night happening in one of my favourite cinemas – At Home With The Ludskis is not your typical ‘post contemporary after party’. An anonymous curatorial team working under the slogan ‘From Dada to Grandma the beat goes on…’, smash the typical cinema going experience into a cacophony of riotous ridiculousness. A kaleidoscope of artists confirmed include: Anna Pigalle, House Of O’Dwyer, Dalston Underground Studio, Mary Epworth, Hanna Rubin, Dusty Limits and the (wonderfully named) Lonely Cowboys From Hell.

WILDCARD: Foxes! Monday 16th January

This week heralds the release of the debut album by indie pop (‘n’ rockers) Foxes! An infectious clash of post-punk folk and casiotone wry; cultivated chaos at its finest. The album is released via Big Salad Records, a new label reportedly “bringing Brighton music out of the salad bowl and into your music collection”. Check out their video to the track “Oh Rosie” below; enough said, Do This Or Regret It!
