Eyeshadow Resolution
I can’t believe it’s over already. 2011 seemed to pass me by with the blink of an eye, I feel like I only gave it 90%, and that I didn’t spend enough time working on my own goals and trying to do all the things I wanted to do.
So last night at dinner with my best friends, we got onto the topic of New Year’s Resolutions… do you have any and did you keep the ones you had the year before? This created a stir at the table, I admitted that I had made so many New Year’s resolutions in the past and not all of them lasted past January. Then my best ‘gal pal’ piped up with her number one resolution for the year….”Mel, my New Year’s resolution is to wear more eye shadow”. I’ve never actually heard anyone say they had a New Year’s resolution that involved make up, and frankly I was impressed! The lovely thing about my friends’ resolution is that it is one that lots of people can also take on as their own and it’s totally achievable!

The thing is we all fall into the trap of getting comfortable with our make-up routine, we all have a similar drill: Alarm goes off at 7am and you have approximately 20 minutes to get dressed, showered (if you didn’t the night before to save time), do your hair, make-up, brush your teeth and get out the door so you can make it to work on time. This means you need to make time cuts somewhere and simplifying your make up routine is one of the easiest ways to make up time. You might even be one of those people who do your make up on the tube, and if so – I salute you and your determination to get that extra 10 or even 20 minutes of snooze time in bed!

But making make-up simpler sometimes means cutting out things like eye shadow or eyeliner and these are two things you can keep in your make up routine this year but not take up any of your precious sleeping in time!
One thing you can invest in is an eye shadow pencil – all you need to do then is draw the colour on your lids and hey presto you are done. Another thing you can do is use your fingers to apply the colour; this means no more time being wasted on finding the eye shadow brush or taking up space in your handbag. Even though I’m sure you’re probably thinking “she can’t be serious”, you have more control of the colour and placement of the shadow if you use your fingers to apply it, trust me!
So if you are looking for a New Year’s resolution to take on through this year – why not add this one to the list! Mine is going to be to wear more lipstick…what’s yours going to be?
