Foods That Make Your Skin Glow!
Like most other people in the UK; neigh the world I am about to commence the mother of all detox’s. Don’t worry its nothing drastic like a juice only diet, or cabbage soup, or even maple syrup and Lemon juice. No way! I’m being sensible and taking the clean and lean approach to my ‘detox’ in order to try and kick start my health regime for 2012 and in the process I am hoping to transform not only my body but my skin.
You see since about November my lovely glowing skin has been on hiatus, its either hibernating or on holiday in some tropical land – lucky for it! Meanwhile I’ve been freezing my backside off in lovely grey Britain wondering why I look so, how do I put this? Feral.

But regardless of where it is, I want it back; so I think I’m going to need to coax it out by treating myself kindly from the inside out! I bet you are wondering why I don’t just wear some make up; I’ve tried that and it just didn’t work! Only a day ago I was out with my father in law and we were looking through some pictures on my camera from New Years Eve and he clocked a picture of me and my friend and said ‘Mel is that you?’ All I can say is that I have looked better…much better, and I know what the culprit is – my diet!
I’ve been indulging a little too much in the sweet stuff and I have put the chronic biscuit eating down to ‘needing to eat all the biscuits in the Christmas tins so we can get the stuff out of the house and start dieting’ – as if that’s a good enough excuse? I have most definitely been drinking too much but all the merriment is starting to get boring so I’m cutting my alcohol consumption back (I can’t go cold turkey just yet, I’m not quite ready). So I am making a pact with you my readers and myself to be diligent with my diet and report back with the results in a few months time.
They say it only takes a matter of weeks before your skin will see improvements if you adjust your diet and these are the foods that are going to help put the sparkle back into my skin:

Water is the number one thing you can put into your system if you want great looking skin. It flushes out your body and the more you drink the better your skin will look. When you’re not drinking water, make sure to be drinking Green Tea. It has many, many health benefits and it is an amazing anti-oxidant, so of great use to your skin.
Berries such as Strawberries, Blueberries and Blackberries are also rich in antioxidants, and when alone or into other dishes the sides, it will increase the healthiness of your skin. Tomatoes and Plums are other fruits rich in anti-oxidants and will have the same benefits that berries will give to you.
Vegetables such as Broccoli, Carrots and Spinach are enriched with Vitamin A, which is great for great at improving the turnover of cells in the skin. This means that when you eat them, your skin gets renewed faster and the newer skin is on top is what you and others will see first. Milk, Eggs, and Oily Fish are also rich in Vitamin A help in the regeneration of skin cells.

Foods enriched with Vitamin C are essential as they are known to delay and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Oranges and Grapefruits are loaded with Vitamin C. Lean Red Meat and again Eggs, are also important as they are a great source of Iron which is important to maintaining bright healthy skin and help in preventing darker circles around the eyes.
OMEGA 3 and 6 are fantastic for the skin and even the hair. Although they are technically fats they are deemed as “good fats”; working wonders for the skin by reducing the chance of inflammation and blemishes. You can get your dose of Omega 3 and 6 in fish based foods such as Tuna or Salmon.
Adding some of these these foods to your diet should improve the healthiness of your skin. However, it’s just as important eliminate foods which will nullify the good things you are eating. Reduce your intake of fatty foods, salt, sugar and caffeine to really get the best results for your skin.
I’ll let you know how I get on and fill you in on my results in a few months time. But until then baton down the hatches this girl is on a mission!
